About Me
I'm Rose Graves, a 5th year PhD candidate in Statistics at Rice University co-advised by Dr. Marina Vannucci and Dr. Scott Powers. I obtained my B.S. from Duke University in Statistical Science with minors in Mathematics and French. Upon graduation from Duke and before starting at Rice, I spent two years working for the Houston Astros as an analyst. My research interests are wide and varied but recently have been focused on Bayesian spatiotemporal applications to sports analytics and environmental protection. I currently serve as the assistant director of Hutchinson Leadership Initiative in Sport Analytics at Rice University working with pitcher biomechanics data to address the injury epidemic and mentoring undergraduate students. While at Rice, I’ve been the primary instructor for two semesters of Probability and Statistics and one semester of the sports analytics senior capstone. I currently work part-time as an associate analyst for the San Francisco Giants. Outside of my research I enjoy long walks with my dog, reading, and baking.
